It was a tiny scrap of paper, in my grandmother’s handwriting, faded and yellow—with answers to my past written all over it. “Why?” I asked. Why would she save this?
“We thought you might want to find her one day… she sent a message to you… she said to tell you that she loves you very much, and she didn’t want to leave you. She knitted a little outfit for you… did you ever get it?”
Growing up with the broiling heat and frequently unpredictable subtropical weather of Louisiana was the easy part; not knowing who she was or where she came from was the hard part. Relinquished at birth, Kimberly lived life into her thirties always lacking what she truly wished for - answers to her past.
Watch Kimberly's story unfold as she discovers unconditional love and forgiveness, which finally offer her the freedom to take flight like a Gypsy Phoenix. Whether you have experienced adoption personally, or just someone you know, this powerful story will speak to the lost and encourage those who have questions to continue seeking answers.
Kimberly Thompson lives in Baskin, Louisiana, with her husband, Keith.

Gypsy Phoenix A Birthright of Hope eBook Kimberly Thompson Reviews
I just finished reading Gypsy Phoenix A Birthright of Hope by Kimberly Thompson. This is a wonderful memoirs of this brave young woman's many trials and disappointments in her early life. Such a traumatic search for her birth family but such a wonderful climax to that search after so many years!
Kimberly Thompson has penned a very honest rendition of strong feelings, good and bad, as she recalls for the reader how she fought to overcome hurts so deep that her life was crippled for many years by people who should have loved her...how she fought to forgive them, how she finally found true love from the mother whom she did not meet until she was 38 years old, and how this has changed her life for the better in many ways! Kim is truly a gypsy and also a phoenix rising to new heights of happiness and you will rise with her as you read her book Gypsy Phoenix A Birthright of Hope.
Linda Duff Niemeir, A fellow Tate author, co-author of Sharecropping in North Louisiana A Family's Struggle Through the Great Depression.
A lot of difficult work went into the writing of this ever-gripping story of a woman who would never give up hope no matter the roadblocks. Like the phoenix, she rose from the ashes with strength through the only One who could save her...her Lord and savior. Kimberly bared her deepest thoughts and most intimate details with openness and transparency that would draw any reader to want to know more and as the story unfolds the reader can easily visualize Kimberly's inner-strength as she overcame each heartbreaking experience.
I think it must have been hard work for the author to bare her life to readers in such an intimate way. Her story of the struggles she faced throughout her early life, knowing she was adopted but not knowing any of the details, reminds us of the importance of honesty and forthrightness in the the lives of children. The story also reminds us that one or two people, such as her adoptive maternal grandparents, can make a huge difference in a child's life. It is regrettable that the author had to experience so much in the way of failed relationships before finding the answers that gave her peace. The reader cannot help but share her hope and happiness as her birthright - both natural and spiritual - is revealed.

Gypsy Phoenix, A Birthright of Hope by Kimberly Thompson is a true story about an American girl caught between two families. From her earliest years of life Kim had questions about her birth and adoption. Although her adoptive parents never hid the fact that she was adopted, the specific details were never given to her. This is the story of one little girl growing up with mental and physical abuse and many questions. If it hadn't been for the love of her grandparents it is doubtful that she would have survived.
Her life as a young adult began on a downward spiral and it is remarkable that she emerged with a sane mind. After many years of searching she emerged with a love for God and finally the answers she looked for her entire life. It is a gripping story full of pain, loss, love, and hope.

Gypsy Phoenix is an autobiographical account of Kimberly Thompson's life, told in the form of a novel in first-person narrative. Kim grew up the oldest child in a family in Louisiana, all the time being painfully aware of her origins as an adopted baby. She leads the reader through the next forty years of her life, growing up with her grandparents, fighting with her adoptive mother, and struggling to bring up her own family.
The voice Kim achieves in her narration immediately drew me in, having a likeable narrator walk me through the events of her past. She relates her story with candor as well as wit, allowing the reader into her thoughts and her own personal perspective as she tells her tale. It read as if she were there with me, simply telling me what she did last weekend.
I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to anyone. Absolutely anyone. This book gives insight to anyone who's been adopted, adopted a child, or given up a child for adoption. It's relatable to anyone who grew up in a family, small or large, and anyone raising children or teenagers.
I read this book in one day! I could hardly stop once I began! The story of Kim's life is so interesting and uplifting, one that should encourage anyone from all walks of life. God has had a special plan for her life since He created her!
From birth to adulthood, share the personal experiences of the author through her own eyes. Feel the loneliness of never "belonging" & the pure love when she is finally meets her biological family; hop in and travel along with Kim as she finds her way. Love, hate, jealousy, deceit, pity, loneliness, heartbreak, happiness, betrayal...just a few of the emotions you will encounter as you travel through this brutally honest recollection of a life hidden away then rediscovered.
Wow!! Just finished reading "Gypsy Phoenix" this book is based on Kim's life! From adoption, rejection and finding love.
